ADMM-based full-waveform inversion for microseismic imaging

چکیده
Full waveform inversion (FWI) is beginning to be used characterize weak seismic events at different scales, an example of which microseismic event (MSE) characterization. However, FWI with unknown sources a severely underdetermined optimization problem, and hence requires strong prior information about the and/or velocity model. The frequency-domain wavefield reconstruction method (WRI) has shown promising results mitigate nonlinearity objective function that generated by cycle-skipping. WRI relies on data-assimilated wavefields, approach true wavefields near receivers, helpful feature when source added as additional variable. We present adaptation recently proposed version based alternating direction multipliers (ADMM) first finds location MSEs then reconstructs signatures jointly. Finally, subsurface model updated focus their location. does not require knowledge number MSEs. stabilized sparsifying regularizations separately tailored subproblems. tested Marmousi using one MSE two clusters initial models, accurate rough one, well noise. In all cases, accurately locates recovers signatures.

Improved depth imaging by constrained full-waveform inversion
We propose a formulation of full-wavefield inversion (FWI) as a constrained optimization problem, and describe a computationally efficient technique for solving constrained full-wavefield inversion (CFWI). The technique is based on using a total-variation regularization method, with the regularization weighted in favor of constraining deeper subsurface model sections. The method helps to promot...
متن کاملImage-guided full waveform inversion
Multiple problems, including high computational cost, spurious local minima, and solutions with no geologic sense, have prevented widespread application of full waveform inversion (FWI), especially FWI of seismic reflections. These problems are fundamentally related to a large number of model parameters and to the absence of low frequencies in recorded seismograms. Instead of inverting for all ...
متن کاملA projected Hessian for full waveform inversion
A Hessian matrix in full waveform inversion (FWI) is difficult to compute directly because of high computational cost and an especially large memory requirement. Therefore, Newton-like methods are rarely feasible in realistic largesize FWI problems. We modify the BFGS method to use a projected Hessian matrix that reduces both the computational cost and memory required, thereby making a quasiNew...
متن کاملInexact Full Newton Method for Full Waveform Inversion
In this paper, we present an inexact full Newton optimization method for the full waveform inversion algorithm in the frequency domain which utilizes simultaneous sources based upon the phase encoding technique. Tests show that the full Newton minimization method achieves a high convergence rate and a reasonably accurate reconstruction of the model parameters. Taking advantage of a direct solve...
متن کاملDownhole microseismic monitoring of hydraulic fracturing: a full- waveform approach for complete moment tensor inversion and stress estimation
Downhole microseismics has gained in popularity in recent years as a way to characterize hydraulic fracturing sources and to estimate in-situ stress state. Conventional approaches only utilize part of the information contained in the microseismic waveforms such as the P/S amplitude ratio and/or P first motion polarity to determine the microearthquake focal mechanisms and infer stress state.
